Question 11 of 20:

True or false, the number of students taking French or German in UK schools has more than doubled in the past five years.

Answer:

False – Language learning is at its lowest level in the UK’s secondary schools since the turn of the millennium, with German and French falling most. There has been a drop of between 30% and 50% since 2013 in the numbers taking GCSE language courses in the worst affected areas in England.

Question 5 of 20:

What type of eclipse was the ‘Super Wolf Blood Moon’ that excited stargazers recently?
a. full lunar eclipse
b. partial lunar eclipse
c. solar eclipse

Answer:

full lunar eclipse – The “super” part comes from the fact that the Moon will be near its closest approach to the Earth – when it will be marginally bigger in the sky than usual. The “wolf” part comes from the name given to full moons in January – “wolf moons”. “Blood’ refers to the red tinge the moon gets while Earth shades it from the sun. The event is the last chance for sky watchers in the UK to see a total lunar eclipse in its entirety until 2029.

Apprenticeships

national_app_service_0

The next few weeks can be a fantastic time to help your child to reflect on what they might want for their future and to start to get their apprenticeship applications ready.

New apprenticeships are being developed and released all the time through The Institute for Apprenticeships.

Apprenticeships are real jobs and therefore individuals will need to participate in a competitive application, recruitment and selection process. For some employers this could be a fairly short process of an application and interview, but for other positions this could mean months of working through multiple application stages and activities. It is likely that your child will need to apply for a few vacancies before they are successful in securing the perfect apprenticeship for them.

Click on the link to read the Parents’ Pack Apprenticeship Information for help, information and recommendations of how to keep your child on track to securing an apprenticeship that they will be happy in.
